Mission Statement

Welcome to the website of Amir A. Aliabadi. Our group, Atmospheric Innovations Research (AIR) Laboratory, has a passion for environmental thermo-fluid dynamics. An understanding of single and multi-phase fluid mechanics, heat, and mass transfer phenomena can help solve many problems that involve the study of thermo-fluid systems. Some example applications include Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), energy engineering, indoor and outdoor air quality, atmospheric science, and climate change. We are specialized in analytical methods, simulations, and experiments and aim to integrate relevant research in universities, institutes, laboratories, and industries. We foster collaborations among students, researchers, and professionals in a variety of research projects. We hope you have a pleasant visit here and please contact us with any inquiries.

A 41X Undergraduate Capstone project is available to design and construct a smart thermostat for building temperature regulation. An actual house on campus is being enviornmentally monitored, and a team of researchers are developing smart building technologies to reduce the energy consumption of the building and the associated Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions while maintaining indoor thermal comfort. A smart thermostat has been designed in theory that works based on real time indoor/outdoor temperature, electricity price schedule, and occupancy in the house. The 41X project requires refining the design and building it. If successful, there is opportunity to deploy this smart thermostat on the real house and show actual energy savings. Interested prospective 41X teams can contact Amir A. Aliabadi for more information.
