Mission Statement

Welcome to the website of Amir A. Aliabadi. Our group, Atmospheric Innovations Research (AIR) Laboratory, has a passion for environmental thermo-fluid dynamics. An understanding of single and multi-phase fluid mechanics, heat, and mass transfer phenomena can help solve many problems that involve the study of thermo-fluid systems. Some example applications include Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), energy engineering, indoor and outdoor air quality, atmospheric science, and climate change. We are specialized in analytical methods, simulations, and experiments and aim to integrate relevant research in universities, institutes, laboratories, and industries. We foster collaborations among students, researchers, and professionals in a variety of research projects. We hope you have a pleasant visit here and please contact us with any inquiries.

Research Positions

M.A.Sc. or Part-Time Research Assistant Position

The Atmospheric Innovations Research (AIR) laboratory at the University of Guelph is hiring an M.A.Sc. student or a part-time Research Assistant. The position title is "Climate and Air Dispersion Analysis to Understand the Spread of the Avian Influenza Virus in Canada". Understanding and mitigating the spread of Avian Influenza Virus (AIV) in poultry facilities (chicken farms) across Canada is of outmost economic importance. The overall project aims to address this challenge. The applicant will retrieve and analyze a list of chicken farms in which AIV infections have been reported (e.g. in provinces of Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia). The applicant will statistically analyze the infection incidents in relation to environmental variables (e.g. temperature and wind) for the locations and times of interest. The applicant will run air dispersion models to investigate the origins/destinations of the air masses that are involved with infected facilities to identify possible sources for AIV. Position details and contact information are provided in the attached document.
